Marilyn Monroe on Blue, Original Painting
Medium/Materials: Acrylic paint on Canvas
When I was five I think, that's when I started wanting to be an actress [...] I didn't like the world around me because it was kind of grim, but I loved to play house. [...] When I heard that this was acting, I said that's what I want to be.’.....~Marilyn Monroe, an interview for Life in 1962
Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson, was an American actress, model, and singer known for playing comedic “blonde bombshell” roles. But she wanted to be considered for more serious roles, not just as the predictable dumb blond character.
Marilyn’s desire to be taken more seriously is reflected in Michelle rendering her in a suit. It is an assertion of her strength and commitment to her craft, despite her naysayers. But there is no denying that she was a bombshell, hence her “Diamonds are an Girl’s Best Friend” diamond necklace. Michelle celebrates her beauty and alluring eyes, in her second interpretative painting of her, which she chose to paint over her first “MM” portrait.
