As I painted to the sound of “Nessun Dorma,” “La Donna è Mobile,” and “O Sole Mio,” I felt immersed in the soul of Pavarotti. These are just a few of the arias that made him a global icon—songs that live forever in our collective memory. His voice, rich and soaring, gave life to pieces like “Ave Maria,” “Una Furtiva Lagrima,” and “Celeste Aida,” and brought joy to audiences from La Scala to the rooftops of Venice. Born in Modena to a baker father with a tenor’s voice and a hardworking mother, Pavarotti never lost his humility. He was shaped by legendary figures like Joan Sutherland and Herbert von Karajan, and he shared the stage with his Three Tenors brothers, Domingo and Carreras. But beyond the spotlight, he was a humanitarian—a UN Messenger of Peace who used his fame to raise millions for children in war zones and survivors of natural disasters through his Pavarotti & Friends concerts. To me, he was a maestro not just of music, but of joy, generosity, and emotional truth. Painting him was my way of honouring that legacy.
